It's been a long road, and an amazing journey, but August at the lake house brought me close to finishing the first draft of my second novel. The working title is Hard Cider, and yes, that feisty brew plays a part in the story of Abbie Rose, who navigates the shoals of her complicated family, and tries desperately to nurture a life and a business along the lake and dunes in northern Michigan that she loves. This novel is a switch to contemporary fiction, but many of the themes from Even in Darkness prevail in Hard Cider. A strong woman must reconcile her future with the pull of family and circumstance.
